At times my life suddenly opens its eyes in the dark. A feeling of masses of people pushing blindly through the streets, excitedly, toward some miracle, while I remain here and no one sees me.
It is like the child who falls asleep in terror listening to the heavy thumps of his heart. For a long, long time till morning puts his light in the locks and the doors of darkness open.

may i be i
may i be i is the only prayer—not may i be great or good or beautiful or wise or strong
today… may i be me….five foot (seven), (red) hair/eyed, smart, serious, happy, frustrated, impatient, joyful, running, sleeping, smiling, eating, trying, believing, listening, being & becoming.

You only get one chance to be a beginner
When you’re new to something, all the pain is out in the open. You stub your toes until they’re black and blue on things the veterans have all learned to avoid. This is both a curse and a gift.
A curse because it’s hard to make progress when you’re constantly getting snagged. Frustration is high and defeat feels scarily near. You might well give up entirely before you know the dance of the...
You will be judged (or you will be ignored)
Those are pretty much the only two choices.
Being judged is uncomfortable. Snap judgments, prejudices, misinformation… all of these, combined with not enough time (how could there be) to truly know you, means that you will inevitably be misjudged, underestimated (or overestimated) and unfairly rejected.
The alternative, of course, is much safer. To be ignored.
Up to you.

For those of you who asked - here’s the Breaking Bad piece I did earlier but took down. It was just a little doodle I did at my friend’s the other night, and I’ve been working on a full color version with more characters, but here’s the original in the mean time

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you...

Making shit work is everyone's job
“Oh, that’s not my job,” is the sound of doom. Maybe not imminent doom, but doom indeed. It’s the magic inflection point when a company becomes too big (even if only psychologically) for any single employee to give a rat’s ass about job numero uno: Making shit work.
No profession is immune. You can have designers who oh-thats-not-my-job to get the JavaScript they wrote to work, programmers who...

Salmon & Salad
Since I want to build a collection of dinners that I can make easy, I’m going to tag this kind of thing with easydinners.
Half pound of salmon. Squeeze a lemon over it, toss some paprika, cumin, and salt on it. Bake for 20 min at 400. Put arugula in a bowl with some balsamic, spoonful of gorgonzola, some raspberries. Fin.

We’re all so attached to our smartphones and laptops and gadgets, etc. I am too. But if I’ve learned anything from my time out here, it’s that whenever you’re in a new place by yourself, never succumb to the security of your smartphone screen.
I can’t imagine how my life out here would be if one…

then you’ve handed control over your happiness to the gatekeepers, built a system that doesn’t scale and prevented yourself from the brave work that leads to a quantum leap.

My Beefy Miracle
I made something tasty.
Get a 3-pound beef shoulder roast. Cut it into big cubes, and get a bottle of a good barbecue sauce (ideally the first ingredient isn’t corn syrup? I used Blue Ribbon BBQ’s Carolina BBQ Sauce) and a 22 of beer you like (I used Slumbrew’s My Better Half).
Let that think about life for 8 hours preferably under low heat. If you don’t know that means...
